Draksharishta is an Ayurvedic formulation which is prescribed mainly for respiratory disorders as well as digestion and stomach related disorders. Any Ayurvedic formulation which consists of the word “rishta” at the end, has alcohol has its base. It contains 5-10% self-generated alcohol which helps deliver water and alcohol soluble herbs to different parts of the body.

It has antibiotic, antiviral properties which alleviate all sort of respiratory tract infections. It is also helpful in reducing chest pain and weakness in the lungs. The vitamin C and K found in Draksharishta also helps get rid of swelling in the throat which develops due to prolonged use of products containing tobacco.

Draksharishta has mild laxative properties. It relieves constipation, improves appetite and helps in curing digestive disorders like GERD and indigestion. It removes toxins from the gut and promotes bile secretion from the liver.

It also encourages good digestion and restores pH balance of the stomach reliving acidity and promoting proper absorption of nutrients through the stomach and gut. It contains Embelia Ribes (Vidanga) which is used as a strong anti-parasitic herb in Ayurveda and is useful against intestinal worm infestation.

Draksharishta is excellent for restoring lost strength after long illness or fever. It increases strength and endurance and removes the feeling of weakness in the body. Regular intake mixed with Ashwagandharishta can also help one gain weight.

Draksharishta contains Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Dalchini) which helps in controlling blood pressure and cholesterol which leads to a healthy heart. If you do not suffer from heart problems, consuming Draksharishta will not let them develop in the body. Apart from its benefits for the heart, it also fights diabetes and obesity.

  • Cinnamomum Tamala (Tejpatra)
  • Piper Longum (Pippali)
  • Embelia Ribes (Vidanga)
  • Jaggary
  • Woodfordia Fruticosa


10ml to 20ml with the same quantity of water to be consumed in the morning on empty stomach. Same can be done in the evening. For children, the dosage should be 5-10ml only.

Side Effects and Caution

Draksharishta should be taken in appropriate dosage only. If a high dose is consumed, it can cause mild gastric irritation.

Diabetic Patients, Pregnant or Lactating women should avoid the use of this medicine.
