Bhumi Amla/Bhoomi Amla also known as Phyllanthus Niruri (scientific name), is a tropical plant which grows in all parts of the Indian subcontinent in the rainy season. It can also be found in China, Cuba, Nigeria, Guam, Philippines, West Africa and America. It generally grows wildly without the need for cultivation and is often misunderstood as a weed. Bhumi amla plant is small and thin with small berry shaped green coloured fruit which looks quite similar to Amla (Indian Gooseberry). It is also known as Bhui Amla, Bhumyamalaki, Bahupatra, Tamalaki, Uttama and Keezhanelli (Tamil).
