Amritdhara or Amrut Dhara is a classical Ayurvedic formulation that is renowned for its action as a pain killer but also has many uses for digestive issues like loose motion, stomach spasmodic pain, indigestion, gas and bloating. Amrit Dhara Ingredients & Formula
The formulation is mainly composed of three ingredients only. The ingredients are:
- Bheemseni Kapoor (Camphor)
- Ajwain Extract (Carom seeds extract)
- Pudina Extract (Peppermint Extract)
All these solid ingredients are taken in equal quantities. Some preparations also contain Lavang Oil (Clove Oil) and Eucalyptus Oil as extra ingredients.

Amrit Dhara For Acidity, Stomach Pain, Loose Motion & Gas
One of the main reasons for the popularity of this composition is because of its magical benefits for stomach related ailments. Just a few drops can quickly relieve flatulence, abdominal gas and bloating, stomach pain, indigestion and dyspepsia, acidity and loose motion.
How to use it for digestive issues?
You can take 4 to 5 drops mixed with sugar to see immediate results in case of vomiting & lose motions. If the loose motions don’t stop, you can again give it after 1/2 an hour.
You can also take 1 or 2 drops without sugar directly on your tongue.
For acidity, gas, indigestion, stomach pain and bloating, take 4 to 5 drops in 1 cup of warm water. Drink as soon as possible as the ingredients of the medicine are volatile and get evaporated if not consumed quickly.
For kids, You can rub 1 to 2 drops on the stomach. The dosage should be 1 to 2 drops maximum.
Amrit Dhara For Motion Sickness
If you have travelled long distances or in ships, you must have experienced vomiting and dizziness which is also known as motion sickness. Amritdhara is an excellent medicine for that.
How to use for motion sickness?
Before leaving for travel, add 1 to 2 drops in a batasha (sugar candy). Consume before travel to prevent motion sickness. If you cannot find batasha, just take 1 drop directly on your tongue.
Amrit Dhara For Asthma, Sinus, Cough, Cold & Allergies
How to use?
Inhalation of 2 drops of this miracle combination with hot boiling water relieves cold, sneezing, cough and allergic reactions in the respiratory tract.
For cold and congestion in the nose, you can directly apply on your nose (do not apply inside the nose or eyes). You can also put a few drops on a handkerchief and inhale.
For congestion in the chest, you can apply a few drops directly on the chest and massage for a few minutes to get relief.
To use for asthma and pneumonia, you can consume 1 to 2 drops in 1 tsp hot water thrice a day. This will work as an expectorant in case of excess mucus collection in the lungs. This remedy also works great for dry cough.
You can also heat 1tsp ghee and add 3 to 6 drops. Massage on nose, throat and chest. This remedy can be done for small kids above 2 years of age as well.
Amrit Dhara For Toothache
For toothache due to cavity and decay, you can simply add 2 drops to a cotton ball and place it on the cavity. The remedy will relieve pain and daily use for a few days will remove the cavity as well.
Amrit Dhara For Headache/Migraine
Add 2 to 3 drops of amritdhara in mustard oil or sesame oil in wintertime. Use it to massage on your forehead and back of your neck. This will relieve migraine-related or any other form of headache or dizziness.
Use the same remedy during summer, but use coconut oil instead as it is cool in nature.
In case of emergency, you can take the drops in your fingers and apply directly. Be sure to tie your head with a cloth or handkerchief afterwards to avoid contact with air.
Amritdhara For Muscle Cramps / Back Pain / Disc Pain / Cervical pain
This medicine is also beneficial in aches, sprains, cramps, back pain and disc or cervical pain, due to its anti-inflammatory properties. To get relief, mix a few drops in 1tsp sesame or mustard oil and apply on the area of pain.
If pain is too much to bear, you can directly apply on the area and massage for 1 to 2 minutes and afterwards apply a cotton pad over it.
Precaution: Use less quantity for sensitive skin as it can cause redness on the skin.
Amrit Dhara For Period Pain
In a tsp of sesame oil, add 3 drops of the medicine and massage on the lower abdomen for a few minutes. This relieves cramps and pain just in a few minutes.
For Mouth Odour
Take 1 drop in your mouth and rinse it properly. Rinse with water afterwards. This will remove smell and mouth odour.
For Mouth ulcers, you can directly apply 1 drop, twice a day to relieve symptoms. Using for a few days will cure mouth ulcers completely.
For Insect Bites
Applying a few drops directly on the insect or mosquito bite can relieve pain and itching which occurs due to the poison of the bite.
As a Mosquito Repellent
Applying a mixture of 3 to 4 drops of amritdhara mixed with sesame oil or coconut oil, on the skin keeps away the mosquito due to the strong smell of camphor.
For Skin Problems
For eczema, fungal ring skin infection, itching, take a few leaves of neem and extract its juice. Add a few drops of amritdhara and apply on the affected area to get relief.
Amritdhara Side Effects & Precautions
The medicine should not be taken regularly as it can cause constipation. It should only be used in case of emergencies.
It is advised to keep it away from eyes. Direct contact with eyes and nasal cavity can cause irritation.
Internal use of Amrit Dhara is not advisable during pregnancy.
It should not be consumed internally by kids below the age of 2.
How To Make Amrit Dhara At Home – Recipe / Vidhi
Ingredients:
- Pudina Extract (Sat Pudina) – 20gm
- Edible camphor (Bheemseni Kapoor) – 20gm
- Ajwain Extract – 20gm
Recipe:
Mix all three in a glass bottle with a lid and a dropper. Keep it in the sun for a day or so. It will turn into liquid form. Your handy Amrit Dhara bottle is ready and you can carry it with you for first aid.
